Electric Wizard "Witchcult Today" (Candlelight)

Back to slow and grungy.

TransformOnline - Music Review

Man, was I fired up when I got this in the mail! Electric Wizard’s my all time favorite doom band (other than Sabbath… and Indian is up there too, but anyway). I liked the more melodic stuff on their last record (the first with the new line-up), but they’re at their best when they’re REALLY stoned and slow and grungy.

And that’s just what you get here on Witchcult Today. Is it as good as Dopethrone? Not quite, but it sure does make a nice companion piece. Like start the bong session with Dopethrone, move on over to Let Us Pray, and then as you’re comin’ down a bit, put on Witchcult Today. Got it? Good.

Fight Amp "Hungry For Nothing" (Translation Loss)
Dissonant, diverse, and sopping through and through with sludge.
The Wombats (The Kids in America)
A continual, upbeat, danceable pulse.
Destroyer "Trouble in Dreams" (Merge)
The troubadour continues to turn out fine pop.
