At first glance, The Veils would at best draw comparison to the English rock band Muse. Although, after multiple listens, I feel this statement is too kind.
From the beginning, this 10-song supple epic is drenched in piano, organ, and over-dramatized vocals with a dash of subdued space age guitars. Sound like Muse to you? What I forgot to also tell you was that it lacks a set of the jublies (testicles). While the band have succeeded in making an album with the possibility of reaching the mainstream, what Nux Vomica lacks is originality. Like so many albums today, Nux Vomica, is simply boring. While no one should hate it, I would be equally surprised if someone outside the family of the band claims to love it.
Recommended track: “Jesus For the Jugular,” best described as the gentle brother of Marilyn Manson.
