TransformOnline - Music Review

Mice Parade will take your brain to some interesting places. It travels soundscapes, tonescapes, and landscapes, piecing together various musical ingredients in a tightly woven aural quilt. It winds its way steadily, beautifully, and at times aggressively, down post-rock backroads. It coaxes us along with passionate acoustic / classical guitar strumming, and swoons us with delicate vocals. The intensity of this “delicate rock” feeling is captured most on two tracks: “Satchelaise” and “Swing.” While the entire disc entices with steady rhythms and floats along urgently, these two songs capture the most emotional aspects of the battle between soft and sweet, and the heavy dirge of a rock-based past life.

This latest record is only the most recent in a slew of full length releases from Adam Pierce, Mice Parade’s founder and sole concrete member. It seems by listening to it that many, many individuals have left their mark on him: a bevy of influences are visited, resulting in a quilt of many colors and flavors in this post-rock endeavor. Mice Parade’s greatest achievement is the sustainability of its work. The music speaks to the ongoing growth of ideas and possibilities. It’s not really pinned down to any one genre (even though, yes, I have stated post-rock attributes). Ever-changing is the world of music: let’s keep it that way.
