This is a really tough album to review. On the one hand, it’s decent melodic punk with an energy that will make you want to move: plenty of upbeat sing-alongs. However, much like with certain other bands, I find the pretending-to-be-Irish thing quite annoying. These guys are from Chicago, not Dublin. How about dropping the gimmick, guys? Regardless of the fact that this has all been done before, you could do worse than to pick up this disc. It falls somewhere between Ramones with a pennywhistle and Dropkick Murphys minus the bagpipes. Maybe The Queers with a banjo is a better description? After about four songs (even on shuffle), Agony starts to sound the same since there’s little variation in tempo or style… but that may not be a big deal after a few beers. This’ll get the crowd moving, and that’s what it’s designed to do. Perfect soundtrack for your college St. Patrick’s Day party.
