Looking outside the boundaries of emo pop.

TransformOnline - Music Review

While I’m sure many people would quickly lump The Graduate in with all the other emo stuff that’s cluttering up the radio right now, they would be very mistaken to do that. Anhedonia is one of the best of the genre I’ve heard in quite a while, particularly when it comes to the vocals. So often I find I’m enjoying everything BUT the singing. Not so here at all! But the vocals are just part of the package. On Anhedonia, you’ll find talented musicians with great song crafting skills who are looking outside the boundaries that seem to constrain most pop/radio-worthy bands. And yes, I do mean pop. These songs are extremely melodic and have plenty of hooks so they fit the definition in my book… but fall far from being a stereotype. I imagine this album appealing strongly to fans of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Brand New, Amber Pacific, etc. and I’d encourage everyone to at least give these guys a chance… even if your musical tastes run a bit louder and angrier, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
