Refreshing like a desert oasis.

TransformOnline - Music Review

When artists dare to tread in untested waters, some can barely stay afloat while others drown. The Higher do neither: they sail. Hailing from the desert metropolis of Las Vegas, the band prove to be a true musical oasis for the uninitiated as well as the accomplished listener. Don’t be deceived, this is no mirage: this band rocks.

The Higher weave so many musical metaphors into their sound that they have become impossible to categorize. Many will want to lump them in with their Las Vegas brethren The Killers, but that would be unfortunate. Seth Trotter’s vocal ability greatly surpasses Brandon Flowers’, and his tonality and presence could give Justin Timberlake a run for his money. This band are accomplished and have been able to formulate an approach that is as much emo as it is R&B.

This is one of the most listenable albums I have come across in a long time. It is a great party or road trip record. The more you listen to it, the more you step into their groove. On Fire’s dance beats get you moving and the vocals get you feeling all the emotion The Higher intend. For all the bands trying to create the next wave of music in the new millennium, be forewarned: you have a lot to live up to. The Higher are on fire!
