You or someone you love might love it, but I hate it.

TransformOnline - Music Review

Because I am done crying about old girlfriends, because I have heard this brand of music a hundred other times, because a lot of really bad musicians will aspire to sound just like Copeland, because these guys hold such a high stance in the emo-trying-to-be-indie crowd already overpopulated with crap. I recommend you and your high school buddies buy this album if you and your regret-filled sad nights need more crying into your grandma’s quilt and listening to more of the same guitar effects and xylophones and piano that sound so “refreshing and new,” but really are not.

Sound harsh? Okay, I’m sorry. I am just being honest, and if that’s not what you want, don’t read this review. Go to someone else who’s going to praise the hell out of Copeland, cuz truth is it will happen. Somewhere on the same rising monotone horizon where Copeland’s vocalist croons at, some editor and his staff of indie hopefuls will fall in love with Eat, Sleep, Repeat. People will buy this record and love it, and people will hate me for being so rude in this review. For them I’m sorry: I like music you probably hate, and that’s okay, cuz I don’t hate you for loving this band or hating me. It’s your prerogative. I just didn’t like Eat, Sleep, Repeat at all. In high school, or maybe when I got my wee 21 year-old heartbroken, I might’ve, but now I care less than ever.

I like a couple songs enough to say “Love Affair” and “I’m a Sucker For a Kind Word” are the closest to what I would spin if I was trying to get laid in a post-high school emo phase. So for you guys currently there, and you guys who are too cool to admit you are, keep these titles in mind.

When my editor first got this disc to me, I popped it in knowing that I didn’t like Copeland but hoped that maybe my opinion would change. It did not. My wife, on the other hand, loved it. So take my word, or take all the other people’s words who love this band: take Eat, Sleep, Repeat and run with it. Far far far away from me.

taylor posted the following Constructive Criticism: I'm a Copeland fan, I don't mind hearing opinions (good or bad) about their music .. however your review was quite shitty. You referenced a total of two songs, TWO SONGS, almost 1/5 of the album. This was an ALBUM review? You said more about yourself than the album. I guess my constructive criticism is to 1. thoroughly review whatever album is on your list next and 2. speak less about yourself.
Tim posted the following Constructive Criticism: Jason, while I will leave most of your feedback for Ryan to answer, it struck me as odd that you would tell him to use "formal grammar" when 1) he does and 2) you mispunctuate almost every sentence. Example: "YOU'RE (apostrophe) joking, (comma) right?" And when you ask a question (#5), remember the question mark. Capitalization, proper punctuation, correct use of apostrophe: study harder next time before you shoot your mouth off.
Jason Chang posted the following Constructive Criticism: 1. You're 23 years old and writing about how you would like it when you were a "wee 21-year old." Your joking right? 2. They don't try to be indie, they have their own distinct style, so don't criticize them for trying to be "indie" when you don't know that. 3. If you're writing a formal review, at least use formal grammar and double check your spelling seriously. 4. Eat, sleep, repeat isn't about crying over girlfriends. Try analyzing and interpreting lyrics a little more. 5. How do you write a whole article on criticism and how much you hate an album when you don't make any comments on the music itself. all you wrote about was "its too emo." You wrote nothing about the musical talent of the group. As much as you hate the subject of the lyrics, you didnt talk about how creative the lyrics were or were not or anything. Same guitar effects and xylophones? It's not even a xylophone. This review is pathetic.
