Death metal refined to a superhuman degree.

TransformOnline - Music Review

There are a few bands I can rely on to churn out respectable – sometimes brilliant – death metal every record, and Vader never really disappoint. Sometimes the output isn’t quite so hot (Blood/Reign Forever World), but other times these Poles remind us why death metal is such a vibrant and intense musical genre. Impressions in Blood is one of those times.

Though never straying far from their modus operandi, Impressions in Blood delivers a potent dosage of extreme death metal laced with symphonic introductions and skin-shearing riffage. And the output is as varied as Vader get, with full-on aural onslaughts like “Red Code” – replete with razor-sharp riffs and booming double-bass – and slow-burners like “Predator” that crush with their weight. Taking a cue from their recent EP The Art of War, Impressions in Blood has a fair amount of groove in addition to the blast. Mix that with the ever-present technicality of their performance, and the album is a sure-fire candidate for all-time favorite.

While you won’t get anything beyond what we’ve come to expect from Vader, the sound has been honed and refined to a superhuman degree. Impressions in Blood is one of their most impressive offerings to date, clearly showing that Vader are at the top of their game. One of the best death metal albums this year.
