Heavy, somber, moshable.

TransformOnline - Music Review

Seattle’s Sinking Ships are a quintet hell-bent on returning hardcore to its original punk-unity message roots. Think 7Seconds with a meaner streak, tempered by a steady diet of Chain Of Strength, Ignite, and Gorilla Biscuits. No shit. These mothers tear through a dozen unrelenting numbers of straight up hardcore fury. Gang vocals, seriously metallic guitar riffs and leads, on-the-verge of exploding vocals, and a much grounded and chemically compatible rhythm section. There are tribal elements here that personify the ritualistic aspect of hardcore, but the testosterone is tempered by personal lyrics that convey an opening to dialogue amongst the meatheads who’ve ruled the genre for too long.

Personal faves: “The Days You’ve Come to Fear,” “Target Practice,” and the breakdown heavy closer of “Wait.” As a unit, they work well and certainly kept my interest peeking with short and well-crafted songs where no “snobby” technical dexterity interfered, as well as managing atmospheric changes here and there. Now there’s a lesson for everybody to follow.
