I was totally shocked to find out that Starkweather are from Philadelphia, considering how close their style of intense, moody sludgecore resembles that of Southern bands like Buzzov*en, Burn The Priest, and especially Acid Bath. Which is to say, if you like those bands, you’ll definitely dig these guys.
The mellow bits they toss in here and there aren’t quite as exciting to these ears as the doom parts, which totally reek of self-loathing and general anti-social behavior. Put down the airplane glue, fellas, turn off the porn, and I guarantee the world will seem like a more positive place than you may think. And I mean that in a complimentary way. Sludge metal is supposed to sound downright depraved and scary. That’s why it’s sludge. Duh!
