Okay, so if you're a fan of None More Black, you pretty much know what to expect. Crunchy, noisy, twisted rock with strange guitar parts, odd lyrics, one of the most gravelly-voiced vocalists besides Tom Waits, and even odder song titles that have nothing at all to do with the rest of the song (or anything else, for that matter!). Normally, this would in no way be my cup of tea, but for some reason I find this band strangely appealing and haven't been able to figure out why since I heard their debut. I don't think that it's just because of Paul Delaney from Kill Your Idols or Jason Shevchuk of Kid Dynamite, either. There's just something I like about their songs. Although I was not a big fan of their last record, I think ...This is Satire picks up where the debut left off. Just like that first record, at first listen I wasn't that impressed... but the more I listened to it, the more I liked it. There's nothing groundbreaking here short of the really long, slow track that I keep thinking has to pick up at some point (but doesn't)... but who cares? It's punk rock!
I'm intrigued by this band. They're also really good live. None More Black have once again pulled me in where I would never have expected myself to be, and that must be the reason I like them so much. ...This is Satire has not let me down.
