Ryan's Hope "Apocalypse in Increments" (Punknews)

Hardcore attitude, metal chops.

TransformOnline - Music Review

I’m not sure how these guys would classify themselves, and I don’t really know how to categorize them… the attitude leans toward hardcore and the song structure toward punk, but there are also cool, rather metal moments that happen throughout the record. But whatever label you decide to bestow upon Ryan’s Hope, it should be one of “great sound.” I can imagine Apocalypse in Increments appealing to fans of H2O and Lifetime.

One of the things I enjoy the most about this album is that it doesn’t ever let up. Pop it in, and it’s a driving pulse from beginning to end. The production is also great: there are rough edges that might not work for other band yet compliment Ryan’s Hope’s songs. Was it a conscious choice? Who knows, but it works! I imagine these guys put on a live performance that matches the qualities of their recordings, and that’s what I’m really looking for in a band. I’m eager for the opportunity to see them live.

Before I heard these guys, I was really skeptical about a band that shared a name with a bad ‘70s soap opera. But not to fear: these guys are great. So if you’ve got money to spend on a new disc, Apocalypse in Increments should be on your short list of ones to consider!
