Candy Bars kick ass. Not the kind of ass you think a band from Florida would, but the kind you would expect from a Norwegian or Swedish act… if that makes any sense. Most bands of late that have emigrated from Florida have had a certain Creed appeal. Candy Bars make you want to look at Florida in a whole new way. Their debut album, Cutting Ti-gers in Half and Understanding Narravation, is an amazing triumph for the Tampa band. The homegrown production, mixed with Daniel Martinez’s whisper-like vocals and cinematic arrangements, have a way of drawing the listener in. Their music defies classification. In their own words, “We take overbearing chord progressions and make microscopic music. America’s favorite unsavories…” The irony is that Candy Bars are a savory treat you enjoy every time you hear them: they reward you with something new every time you return. The band are poised to do big things and make some big noise in the blogosphere. If you are looking for a comparison, Cutting Ti-gers in Half and Understanding Narravation would fit very well between your favorite Animal Collective album and the new Devendra Barnhart. Take a listen and enjoy this chocolately audio treat: you’re bound to like it!
