Music the way it’s meant to be: limitless and uncompromising.

TransformOnline - Music Review

If you like metal, you will be enthralled by Protest The Hero's American debut, Kezia. Let me rephrase that: if you like nü metal but hate hardcore, metalcore but hate thrash, death metal but hate power metal... stay far away. Otherwise Protest The Hero will jump out of the speakers and attack you with their uncompromising fusion of all things metal track after bloody track.

A band fresh out of high school, the music reflects the members' angst, confusion, passion, maturity, and growth in a masterpiece telling the story of Kezia, of which the album is named after. Concept aside, musically this album is a punch to the face of norms in the metal scene. Influences range as far as the eye can see, with the opener having clear elements of thrash, mathcore, power metal, and nü metal within the first minute or so. Moreover, the lyrics and vocals – with minimalist yells – pack a punch that rivals some of the most aggressive hardcore out there.

Overall, Protest The Hero are teetering on the edge of insanity and genius. This is an album for music's sake and it shows at every turn. There's no underlying plot, no deep-rooted aggression needing to be purged. At the heart of the matter are the five members and their love for music, regardless of genres. If you don't give Kezia a listen, you're cheating yourself. Words cannot do this album the justice it so rightfully deserves. Bottom line, this is music the way it’s meant to be: limitless and uncompromising.

 Past Constructive Criticism

Simon posted the following Constructive Criticism: Hey man, I post on the site as well (name's Simon). I'm a bit of a PTH fan myself (bought the album when it first came out up here a few months back). I'd just like to say that while I quickly grew to love Kezia, it got old pretty fast. It's still a solid record, but have stopped raving about it quite so much in the past few weeks. In the end, I came to realize that it's not the amazing, enduring album I first thought it would be...but it's still a hell of an effort for a bunch of high school punks. I think they have a world of potential to improve even farther with their next record. Simon
