Akimbo "Forging Steel and Laying Stone" (Alternative Tentacles)

Loud chunks of rock and roll.

TransformOnline - Music Review

The trio of Akimbo is most certainly not with its collective hands at the hips with elbows slightly bent outward. No. This trio of Jon Weisnewski (bass/vox), Nat Damm (drums), and Jared Eglington (guitar) is very much out and about with hands waving madly over banging heads. Giant chunks of rock and roll as if they were chipped from some monstrous quarry scatter the land as the trio runs through 12 alarmingly louder numbers. Like I need to tell you, you know the rhythm section lays an impeccable foundation for the guitar and vocals with rocksteady precision and without ever sacrificing integrity.

There are outside elements of stoner blues, latter day Black Flag, metal tinges, and indie rock instrumental musings. Fans of Strikeforce Diablo, Melvins, and Neurosis might want to take notice. Easy standouts: "Dangerousness," Spooning with Disaster," the somber long jam in the middle "Tower of the Elephant," and the closer "Ground Control to Major Bummer." Dig up their other albums, get your hands moving.
