What exactly is in Swedish water? Seriously. This is really fucking good. It's even a little departure from their Be Not Content, which I was extremely impressed and wowed by. Do they top it? Yes. But did they learn from it and tweaked their new muse into something unique and wonderful? Yes. With Be Not Content, I threw around Black Flag, The Stooges, and Sleep into the likeness mix, but here I'm gonna go with way latter day Black Flag, C.A. Quintet, and The 13th Floor Elevators. They've dropped the weird Scandinavian depression that fuels all the art forms that hail from them parts, kept the punk, upped the chunk rock, and gelled even further as a musical unit.
The rhythm section of Thomas Hedblom (bass) and Daniel Astgren (drums) lays a serious base for the guitars and percussions of Jens Åker and Henke Andersson's full-ranged vocals. Here they are a little more experimental, but without ever flexing unnecessary musical muscles: no stop or start is contrived, these long jams leave a satisfying ringing in your ears. Studio effects enrich the recording without detracting from their natural ability. Seriously, what the hell were these guys raised on? The next time someone claims that Swedes are über-people, you should agree. Completely. 10 tracks clock slightly shy of 50 minutes, and the psychedelic cover art will probably be best viewed in the delicious 12" × 12" format (vinyl rules!), but get whatever you can play at home. Another superb release.
