TransformOnline - Music Review

I have to say that, after the stellar review I gave a few weeks ago to The Day the Sun Went Out, hearing this left me with some mixed feelings, most of them not so good.

As the title suggests, Before the Eulogy collects various releases prior to After the Eulogy, the band's lone record for Victory and for some (myself included) the start of their musical decline.

On to the songs: #s 1-4 consist of the band’s first demo, which never should have seen the light of day. They do redeem themselves with the following Premonition. Change. Revolt EP (aka second demo), however, which includes the amazing "Vehicle." By the time you approach the In Chrysalis EP, you can hear the metal seeping in and that, my friends, is where Boy Sets Fire lose me. Nathan's voice does get better over time (hard to believe the same guy who sounded so... constipated on their first demo could evolve into such a melodic vocalist), but as time does on the duller the band became.

Hearing these reissues has indeed renewed my interest in Boy Sets Fire, and I hope their new record does not disappoint.
