The first thing that comes to mind when I start listening to Film School is “Explosions In The Sky somehow got humped by Robert Smith.” It really is as epic and tragic as the combination of both. Reaching heights of mope-y glory and full layers of arena grandeur, Film School are an impassioned collective. It’s almost difficult to see where they may have sprouted from.
Listing a host of influences from Pink Floyd to “alternative ‘80s,” Film School reach a level of sophistication that only real progression and utilization of one’s forebears can. They even seem to quell the need to explode on contact. What does that mean exactly? Well, think about what happens when you listen to a band that is bursting with energy, good ideas, and overall a sense of quality. You find yourself getting so excited that you somehow wear them out by listening too much. Explode on contact. Film School hang onto their wad in every way and craft incredibly good tunes from beginning to end.
Managing to land a spot on a well-respected label like Beggars Banquet is a pretty nice set up. All I can say is believe the hype and check out Film School.
