Two new song plus cover versions of each other!

TransformOnline - Music Review

Being a fan of both Alexisonfire and Moneen, when I first heard the news about this split EP, I anxiously anticipated its street date. On it, not only do you get to hear both bands play one new original each, but also their covers of each other. Here we have Moneen covering “Accidents Are on Purpose” and “Sharks in Danger” by Alexisonfire, and Alexisonfire covering “Passing Out in America” and “Tonight I’m Going to Wash the Hippy” by Moneen. Also, note how the song titles have been altered to encourage the hilarity of the EP (For instance, “Passing in America” is now “Passing OUT in America”). The two bands, long time friends and fellow Canadians, thought the EP would be a fun and unique idea: and indeed it is. Not often do you see two bands covering one another’s songs, let alone two bands who are long time friends. As it’s been dubbed, the “Switcheroo Series” EP runs just around 30 minutes, with each band throwing in their own style of screams, breakdowns, energy, and fervor. An appealing mix of covers and originals, fans of both are guaranteed to not only enjoy this EP, but perhaps have as much fun listening to it as I’m sure the bands had putting it together. However, I don’t see myself playing this split numerous times in the future: as fun as it may be, it is not a classic, unforgettable release. I do recommend checking it out, though… as long as you’re not a die hard fan who might be insulted by the bands’ covers of one another (come on, where's your sense of humor?).
