Further crossbreeding of the intimate and regimented.

TransformOnline - Music Review

The futuristic, seductive, dreamy, slick, and erotic entity known as Goldfrapp has returned. In preparation for the release of its new album, Supernature, next year, this EP is here to whet our appetite with a lead-off single, two exclusive b-sides, and two remixes. If they wanted to tease us where it itched the most with Number 1, they’ve succeeded. The title track sports a Eurythmics-meets-Kylie Minogue feel, but with forbidden sexiness instead of clinical pop and a mainstream aftertaste. At once standoff-ishly cool and whispering dirty nothings in your ear, it continues Goldfrapp’s seamless melding of the intimate and the regimented. This is the reason why men/women in uniform are a part of sex fantasies, expressed in music.

Though seemingly more beat-driven than Goldfrapp’s previous works, Number 1 nevertheless contains the b-side “All Night Operator,” which sounds more like the lazy-sex-at-dawn feel of Felt Mountain. Exploratory, layered vocals, slowly unfurling electronic atmospherics… aaaahhhh my ears are melting. Perfect for the encroachment of night and for accentuating certain moments during intercourse heaven.

Supernature can’t come soon enough! I want more!
