Though only a three-song EP, Caroline hints at a Frou Frou in the making. Celestial, pleading vocals that soothes, eroticizes, and caresses with its ivory sheen, hoisted high above like a goddess by tasteful, ornate electronic arrangements. But unlike Frou Frou, Caroline doesn’t come off as grand or posh: rather, it feels more antique-y and home-y, humble about its potential and teasing the listener with subdued textures like a geisha hiding her radiant smile under her shirt sleeve. There is much at work here, but conducted with appropriate restraint. Think The Notwist reigning in their clicking-and-chirping universe, except without the German detached-ness.
A full-length is supposedly in the works: I wouldn’t be surprised if, a year from now, Caroline is on the lips of the entire indielectronica scene.
