Erin Tobey is a zine-maker, guitarist, vocal enchantress, subdued temptress, indie-purist... she’s many things, but lordy is she sweet. This disc packs a serious dozen of sugary hits that remind me why indie rock is good. Seriously, you can’t give it a spin without developing a little crush on this girl. You might know her from her other musical works Abe Froman and Mt. Gigantic, but know her now for her intimate self.
These songs are stripped ditties about love, people, situations: all treated with the respect and reverence of someone struggling with coyness and self-assurance... but don’t be fooled, the girl can cut it! She operates on the acoustic front for most of the album, but is backed occasionally with bass, percussion, and an organ, most recorded by her. Standouts: “I Grow Like a Plant,” “Dry, Not Wet,” and my two faves, “Wolf-Alice” and “Master Pattern.”
