Taking a bit longer to digest than their earlier efforts.

TransformOnline - Music Review

CKY are crazy, as proven by the fact that drummer Jess Margera's brother named his insane video series after the band. Lyrically, the band have toned down with every album since their first, but the instrumental craziness of CKY continues to push boundaries with their latest album, An Answer Can Be Found.

The second the opening riff of "Suddenly Tragic" hits, it's clear this is a CKY album: atypical note transitions, that trademark CKY distortion, and an uncanny balance of speed and rhythm in each bar. And like every CKY album, this track is hands down the best of the litter (even though the litter is full of gems). CKY have an ability to make the most simplistic of ideas into complicated genius, but with this album it seems they stretch themselves a bit too thin. Though An Answer Can Be Found is just as bizarrely original as their previous, they don't do enough to differentiate their sound from their previous album (Volume 1 did from its predecessor). However, there's just as much technical brilliance on An Answer Can Be Found, particularly in the riffs of "Suddenly Tragic" and "Dressed in Decay." And in my opinion, "Deceit is Striking Gold" has the best breakdown I've ever heard.

An Answer Can Be Found is good. It's CKY: what else did you expect? However, I'm not sure if I've grasped it all yet. I definitely thought Infiltrate.Destroy.Rebuild was one of the finest albums in recent memory, and maybe that's why I'm reluctant to take in An Answer Can Be Found as a worthy follow up. CKY are still being CKY though, and that’s worth the price without question. Living up to their previous work is a different story. An Answer Can Be Found is solid, but it's lacking something that the previous had. One day it may hit me like a brick, but right now I just haven't felt that yet.

I think the easiest way to sum up this album is a little thing I found at the CKY website, after an interview with Deron Miller had him saying the album was the "real shit:" The Real Shit (the-REEL-shit): n. authentic, inspired, peerless, usu. in a creative endeavor. See also CKY.

Highlights: "Suddenly Tragic," "Deceit is Striking Gold," "Sniped."
