Picking up the slaying where it ended is this superb EP (available in CD and the more choice 7” format) by Florida’s ambassadors of raging thrash, Assholeparade. Claiming these are “lost” recordings from the late ‘90s, our friends at No Idea have released a sizzling 14 tracker that pushes the needle dead shortly after the 12 minute mark. You can’t keep a real beast dead for long. The “lost” recordings feature the 1997 and 1998 lineups.
I’m normally blown away by three-piece bands with thick sounds, but when a five-piece comes along and drops the heavy word at breakneck speeds, I’m blown away by tightness and timing. Assholeparade never disappoint: everybody’s on the mark. But shit, you knew that because anyone in their right mind will at least own their split with Palatka.
Boasting a new lineup and a revamped attitude finds the band planning tours and working on a full-length for late ’05. All 14 tracks are hot, like a good EP should be, but I recommend their cover of Circle Jerks’ “Red Tape,” as well as “As Nails Rust” and “Say Goodbye to My Little Friends” for repeat abuse. Blast beats, varying speeds of buzz-saw guitar/bass work, and screamed-from-the-fringe vocals make this one a keeper to play loud as fuck.
