Left Alone was a surprise! As I get older and balder, it’s very hard for something to come along in the realm of punk rock and impress me... by looks I was just gonna write this off as spiky-haired, leather-clad, gluesniffer’s fodder, but this quad of bilinguals (always a plus!) presents a solid, honest effort of their decade-long hard earned punk rock respect. I immediately drew parallels to the first time I listened to Rancid’s first album... then I saw a little Clash, a little Snuff, and plenty of my favorite Colombian outfit I.R.A.
This half-hour, 13-tracker makes due with no filler and plenty of rocking tracks about heartbreak, loneliness, and opportunities (taken and missed). Rick and Ramrod provide the chunky, military-precise rhythm you expect on bass and drums respectively. Elvis’ guitar work has the appropriate riffage and volume, while Noe’s saxophone fills remind of artistry at work, not just pissed punk rock rage. “Another Feeling” and “My 62” have taken the ride on the “repeat” function of my player, morning, night, and day.
