Street punk’s been around since punk’s inception and Dropkick Murphys do it better than most... so little surprise for long-time fans and their kid siblings that the racket continues with The Warrior’s Code. Clean production with distinct instrumentation make for excellent swilling accompaniment. Crack the Guinness and the Camel Lights. According to the press release, the Murphys were single-handedly responsible for breaking the Red Sox’s “Curse of the Bambino.”
Never shy from tackling the real problems, they also pay their respects to a fallen fan serving in Iraq (“The Last Letter Home”) and brazen social observation (“Citizen CIA”). Long live Boston’s fine Irish tradition and long live this five full-lengths-strong outfit. Guitars, bagpipes, solid rhythm, and strong vocals make this the real deal. The underlying underdog boxer motif (“Irish” Mickey Ward, famed Massachusetts pugilist) works well with the ballsy delivery of this tight 14 tracker.
