TransformOnline - Music Review

It’s been so long since New Order have been relevant to pop that, upon hearing that they had released a new album, the casual consumer might cynically assume that the band was running low on cash. However, after listening to Siren blah blah, it becomes evident that they just plain ol’ love making music. Are they breaking new ground? No. Anyone who’s even slightly familiar with New Order and Joy Division will recognize recycled bits of all their favorite songs, riffs, and hooks. Nor is that necessarily a bad thing. New Order know what they like, and if you share their aesthetic, you will almost certainly enjoy their latest. If, on the other hand, you’re a part-time fan, you’ll probably be better off buying a best-of compilation. Listening to New Order’s relationship with music is a little like watching an old married couple on a park bench, no surprises. And for some, that’s the most seductive siren song of all.
