If I didn't know better, I'd swear this was a long lost Napalm Death album from the early ‘90s. It's that good.
But it's not ND, it's Siege Of Hate, a four-piece metal band from Brazil. So the first thing that comes to mind is Sepultura, right? Well, yeah, it's heavy, the lyrics are in English, and the singer sort of sounds a bit like Max Cavalera at times (but some of that might just be the accent.) But the big influence is really the grindcore-meets-thrash metal sound pioneered by Napalm Death.
That's not to say that SOH is a rip-off band. Look, you don't have to reinvent the wheel to be a great band or make a great album. These fellas aren't doing anything all that new, but they write awesome tunes and play with a shitload of fire. Sometimes that's all you really need. Rather than do a half-assed attempt at some kinda "fresh new mix of this that and the other thing," these guys stick with what works: old school, headbangin' metal. And it thoroughly ROCKS. It's fast, it's loud, it's political, and it makes you wanna stomp around, throw up the horns, and inflict pain. Now, let's all say it together, in our best Lee Dorian voice: “Eeehhhhhwwwww."
