After the huge emphasis on Dave in Episode 14, the latest in Pure Pwnage acquaints us with one of the biggest launches ever in the history of video games: Halo 3. Jeremy begins the day going nuts like, well, a noob. He, like every other person on the planet at the time, was waiting for the release of Halo 3 on the 360. Convinced that it’s the next god game, he goes to wait in line.
Before we get to Jeremy making an ass of himself going nuts over Halo 3, the episode resolves the cliffhanger ending from the last episode: the deletion of Anastasia’s World of Warcraft character. It seems like the writers have been watching early episodes of the second season of Heroes, as there’s a big buildup to a probable fight, only to have it shot down in a completely different direction, thus ending a possibly good story arc very quickly. Long story short, Jeremy somehow gets away with the unthinkable, and Anastasia decides to do other things with her life.
Anyway, at the mall, Jeremy attempts to bumble his way up the line until he meets a new character by the name of Terrence. It turns out Terrence is a big Halo nut who’s actually won several tournaments by playing it: the figure he threw out was around $250K. After Jeremy accuses him of being a noob, Terrence gets pissed, calms down, and introduces himself as T-Bag. Upon finding Jeremy’s identity as teh_pwnerer, Jeremy gets invited to T-Bag’s Halo 3 weekend. Jeremy then oogles over his newly procured Legendary Edition of Halo 3.
What follows is probably the “worst” part of the episode: a three and-a-half minute rap video with T-Bag’s take on Halo 3. While it’s funny, there was just too much video and not enough antics. It honestly felt like I was watching something on MTV2 rather than Pure Pwnage. Thankfully, the video ends, and one of the biggest surprises happens at the Halo 3 shindig: an accidental yet anticipated reunion between Jeremy and the ousted FPSDoug.
This episode had more surprises and twists in it than an M. Night Shyamalan film (what a twist!). I was outright disappointed with the outcome of the possible “Jeremy Vs. Tagi” fight, but they could be saving that for a later show. They did make up for it with Doug, and the dialogue between the two, although sounding like something out of a chatroom, really played out well. The two rivals should prove to be an interesting story, particularly since Doug hasn’t been seen for two episodes, but I’d like to see some more mockumentary-style plot points.
Oh, and I loved the parody of Team Fortress 2. This has to be one of the best builds to a punchline ever. Just be sure to turn off your PC filter… and I don’t mean the filter on your computer.
